Honeycrisp are a type of apple that are only available now. IF you haven’t tried one, run and grab the last few at the store now, before they are gone for the season. They are my favorite apple of all time. Pink Ladies are a close second, sweet and mellow, and more available throughout the the year. Stephen has the same love for Honeycrisps as I do, and he very politely asked for the apples with the honey in them for snack. Yep they are that wonderful!

We have the great blessing of the boys Great Grandparents. They live in Palm Desert California. They are in their 80’s and slowing down a bit these days. They are great people and very special to us! Just in case you don’t know the story here’s what makes them so extraordinary. My Dad’s parents had 7 children. My Dad is the oldest of the 7. My Dad’s mom died of cancer when Dad was 19 and his youngest sister was just 7. After her death someone in the parish set Grandpa up on a blind date. His date had 8 children and her husband had died as well. Long story short they married and only 12 of the 15 kids ever lived at home at one time. After raising so many kids, nothing ruffles their feathers, they are kind and warm and I hope mellow out just like them.
Even after all those kids, they still like seeing the babies. So whenever we are able to make the trek, we make a point to visit with Grandma and Grandpa LeBrun. 4 generations together! We enjoyed a light lunch and lots of compliments. The big boys even went swimming in Grandma’s pool! Here are the pictures of our lovely afternoon together!

Mom: he’s not that big on those snacks Freddy.
Freddy: no mom he’s just small!
(What was I thinking? I meant he didn’t like that snack but Freddy took it literally!)
A story another auntie told me:
It was time for Dance class so Leah’s mom told her to get her leotards on. Leah went to get her leotards on and told her friend, also going to dance class, to get ready “come on Deanne, put your deann-atards on”!
Kids are so literal!

We had our annual Spring Fling! None of the minors got themselves a beer this year, food was good and the company divine! Several ladder balls were thrown into the trees but thankfully we has some tall firefighters here to help out!

A while back I commented that Michael and I are of 2 different religions, he believes in ornament hooks and I do not. For the record I found what I hope was the final christmas ornament hook in the rug, March 20! Turns out he hates the easter basket grass. I am not sure why, it’s purple it pretty much blends it with everything around here. I hardly notice it, and it doesn’t stab you in the foot like the hooks! Oh well, we manage to get by somehow!

As a busy mom of 3 boys, I took no pictures worth publishing of Easter, the snow pictures will have to suffice. We had a great Easter. Things got going on Friday when we received a package from Aunt Lea filled with Easter goodies. On Easter morning, the big boys woke up and came to my room to cuddle and watch cartoons while we waited for Daddy to come home. We were surprised by all the snow we received EAster morning, but it felt cozy. It was no small task to wait 30 – 40 minutes for Daddy, but we made it. As soon as we realized Dad was home we dashed down the stairs and collected Easter eggs before we even looked in our Easter baskets! We had lots of eggs to find inside the house and the boys got a soccer ball and goal. They got some baseballs too. The dogs chewed up the ones from last year, so good thing the EAster bunny thought to bring them! Daddy cooked a fabulous french toast. We hurried off to mass, but we didn’t last the whole mass.
After some lunch and naps we headed up to Mimi and Pa’s. Aunt Mary and Uncle Ed had cool stuff for the boys, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and of course candy! They even made jello eggs for the boys, we’re still enjoying those! Freddy would blow bubbles everywhere if I’d let him. Mimi had hidden even more eggs around the house, so more fun. Pa cooked an awesome ham. Being the ever indulgent grandparents, after dinner they tried out their sidewalk chalk on the cement walls of the basement. With our snowy/rainy weather we couldn’t take the chalk outside. Theo was great! He smiled at everyone. We had a great day, made even better surrounded by family.
The snowy pictures are from last week. Enjoy!

I decided to get out of the house yesterday and enjoy the nice weather. Not too hot yet, not too cold just perfect for visiting the zoo. The animals were active, the trees were blooming for spring, and everyone was in good spirits. We saw the polar bears back floating, the lions sun tanning, and rode the carosel. Daddy even treated everyone to ice cream cones! But you must know that visiting the zoo with young children is not without mishaps.
We drove out of Castle Rock, and checked in with Daddy, who said he’d meet us at the zoo. It’s about a 45 minute drive from our house to the zoo, and so as soon as we were within sight of the zoo, Freddy announces he has to poop. Lucky for us we snagged a close parking space. We zip through member’s check in, when Stephen notices a sign with a picture of a gun, and a red line through it. Naturally, Stephen must tell the zoo clerk, in a voice loud enough for the entire entrance line to hear, that no guns are allowed in the zoo. (As if she didn’t know about this rule) But sweet lady that she is, she plays along and agrees with Stephen. Stephen feels like a big boy, Jeremy roars at a statue of a lion, and Freddy runs off. We have arrived!
We made our first stop, at the restrooms. Of course I have 4 boys and the family bathroom is occupied so we all trudge into the ladies room. Theo and Jeremy stayed in the stroller, Freddy had to poop and Stephen went in his own stall to pee. Of course Freddy is still little and needs help on and off the potty, Stephen is fine on his own or so I think. I hear a scream from Stephen and a whine
“Mom, I dropped my snack in the toilet!”
“Ok” I respond and open the door to find Stephen holding a dripping wet plastic bag.
EEEEEWWWWWWWWWW! I repeat my mantra ‘hand washing, good hand washing is how to stay healthy’, I don’t even try to explain to my son how full of bacteria and germs a public restroom is, but I gingerly take the gross baggie and tell him to go wash his hands. I toss the wet baggie and wash my own hands. Now Freddy needs my help getting out of bathroom stall. Stephen starts to whine about not having any snack, and I tell him we don’t take snacks into the bathroom with us, he should have left it in the stroller. Freddy is sitting on the floor of the public restroom to put on his pants and shoes. Ugh! Germs! Repeat mantra ‘hand washing, good hand washing is how to stay healthy ‘. Jeremy is wandering away and Theo is hungary. Freddy washes his hands, Jeremy is rounded up and we’re on our way.
Canadian Geese winter in the warm Colorado sun, and make a lot of noise with all their honking. Freddy and Jeremy walk up to the geese with the clear intention of petting them. I warn them that geese will bite and don’t want to be pet. Freddy develops an immediate fear of any goose within 10 feet. There are geese everywhere in the zoo, its going to be a long day. Jeremy on the other hand is undaunted, and continues to try and pet the geese. I repeat it will be a long day. We stop to see the lions and there are benches to sit on, so I take the opportunity to nurse Theo while the kids are entertained by the sun tanning lion. We are almost finished when Jeremy walks off to pet a goose. Stephen and Freddy round him up back to us, and after a quick change for Theo we are off again. Our little herd takes in the felines, giraffes and loves the backstroking polar bears. We stop for lunch, and walk into the reptile house. Michael joins us. YES an extra pair of hands! I forgot the ‘Baby Bjorn’ and must carry Theo while herding the little ones. We manage to wind our way through the reptile house without any major injuries, unlike last time when Stephen split open his head.
Our trip is wrapping up. We visit the carrousel, have an ice cream cone, and wander through bird world. Bird world is free flight bird exhibit. Our timing was perfect, because we arrived just in time for the bug toss. The boys got a handful of meal worms and then just as the name implies, they tossed the worms to the birds. Fun times! A little hand sanitizer and our day at the zoo is complete. One more bathroom stop, and we load up into the vehicles. Kids are a sleep in 5 minutes. Another successful trip to the zoo.

I am the finder, not the mom, or friend or teacher, but the finder. Just yesterday I found 2007 tax paperwork for my husband after his exhaustive search around the house. (It was in the oh so obvious paperwork place on the floor behind the couch, it slid back there on it’s own) I found a monster truck for the neighbor boy. (REally what was he thinking bringing a toy to our house? Our house is littered with toys!) I found my son’s shoes, in his room instead of the shoe place. Really I am not a mom at all, I am a finder of lost things. I love my husband, because he cooks, but he can’t find anything. And when he’s gone for 48 hrs it takes us 2 more days to point out everything that’s moved around the house. Our house is not static, it’s a living organism with stuff moving all the time. I am probably unaware of how many things flitter and flit about then return to their homes. I need a clock like Mrs. Weasley, that tells me the whereabouts of my family at all times and I need to perfect that ‘accio’ spell too!

Theo went 8 hours between feeding the other night. Wa HOOOO! Too bad it started at 630 in the evening. I still got up at 230. Still the sleep felt good. I’d have panicked anyway and woken up with heart palpitations. It won’t be long and we’ll be sleeping through the night, until then I’ll be up around 2AM!
